Château Guadet (formerly known as Château Guadet St-Julien) is situated in the historic vineyards of Saint-Émilion and holds a place of distinction in the annals of Bordeaux's winemaking history. This estate traces its roots back to the 1700s, standing as a testament to the region's deep-rooted vinicultural traditions. Since 1955, this Grand Cru Classé estate has featured in every iteration of the classification except for the 2006 ranking. The Guadet name is historically significant, linked to Marguerite-Élie Guadet, a prominent figure during the French Revolution. The property has been owned and operated since the mid-19th century by the Lignac family, now in its seventh vigneron generation. Château Guadet is renowned for its commitment to showcasing the unique terroir of Saint-Émilion through meticulous viticulture and precision winemaking. The house manages just under six hectares of a traditionally, partially-walled vineyard managed with organic and biodynamic principles. With three-quarters of plantings, Merlot dominates while the remaining portion of the holding is planted to Cabernet Franc.

The vines of Château Guadet benefit from the rich, diverse soils of Saint-Émilion, comprising limestone and clay, which are ideal for the cultivation of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The careful stewardship of the vineyard, with an emphasis on biodiversity and soil health, allows the vines to express the full potential of the appellation's unique ecosystem. Selective handpicking of grapes ensures that only the best fruit is used for winemaking. The fermentation process is carefully managed in concrete vats, followed by ageing for 12 to 20 months in a mix of new and seasoned oak barrels. This approach allows for a harmonious blend of fruit purity and oak influence. Château Guadet features red and black fruit and spice complemented by delicate floral notes, subtle notes of vanilla and toast plus a hint of minerality. The palate displays layered complexity and silky tannins. This wine has considerable cellaring potential.
