Understanding Chateau Cheval Blanc, Le Petit Cheval Rouge, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux
Grapes for Petit Cheval are carefully selected from the esteemed younger plots of the Château Cheval Blanc vineyards, which are characterised by their gravel and clay soils. This rich terroir is instrumental in producing grapes that lend the wine its unique profile, marked by depth and finesse. Petit Cheval benefits from the same meticulous winemaking process as the Grand Vin of Château Cheval Blanc. The grapes are delicately handled and each plot is fermented separately, followed by ageing for 13 to 18 months in 50% new French oak. This approach ensures the wine's quality and consistency, while also allowing it to develop its distinctive character. Petit Cheval, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, features red fruit, floral and herbal nuances in a graceful palate with smooth tannins. This wine possesses a commendable ageing potential.
