Château La Violette, renowned for its exceptional position in the Pomerol appellation, is a jewel within Bordeaux's illustrious mosaic of vineyards. This esteemed estate, with its history dating back to the early 20th century, has consistently been at the forefront of producing remarkably concentrated and expressive wines exclusively from the Merlot grape. La Violette is owned by Vignobles Péré-Vergé, a prestigious Pomerol wine portfolio run by the Péré-Vergé family. The house’s vineyards span just under two hectares with some vines planted in the 1950s. The vineyard's prime location on the plateau of Pomerol, with its rich clay and iron soil, provides the perfect terroir for cultivating grapes of profound depth and complexity. In recent years, Château La Violette has experienced a renaissance, reaffirming its status as a producer of some of the most coveted and exquisite wines in the region. The estate has honed its focus on low yields, removal of Cabernet Franc to focus on Merlot and meticulous vineyard management, ensuring that each bottle of Château La Violette embodies the pinnacle of Pomerol excellence.

Understanding Chateau La Violette, Pomerol, Bordeaux

The estate employs sustainable methods to nurture the soil and vines, ensuring the health and longevity of the vineyard while preserving the integrity of the wine. The vineyard team practices green harvesting to aid fruit development and passes through vineyards a few times during harvest to ensure only the finest fruit is picked. This approach is complemented by an artisanal winemaking process that emphasises gentle handling and minimal intervention, allowing the character of the Merlot grape to shine through in its purest form. Fermentation and ageing take place in 100% new French oak for 12 to 18 months, steps that add complexity without eclipsing the fruit features. Château La Violette displays ripe black fruit and a hint of violet in a velvety palate with refined tannins. This wine has considerable ageing potential.
