A brief history of Chateau La Croix St. Georges, Pomerol, Bordeaux

Château La Croix St. Georges is an acclaimed producer located in Pomerol, a region synonymous with winemaking excellence. Established in the early 20th century, the estate was bought by the Janoueix family in 1932. The estate’s modern era began in 1999 when Jean Philippe Janoueix took over the Right Bank house. Janoueix constructed a modern dedicated wine-making facility for the house which had previously undertaken vinification at neighbouring properties. The estate boasts just over four hectares of vines planted mostly to Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are adjacent to some of Pomerol’s most famous producers including Le Pin and Chateau Petit Village. Château La Croix St. Georges’ commitment to quality and expression has cemented its reputation as a producer of some of the most sought-after wines in the region.

Understanding Chateau La Croix St. Georges, Pomerol, Bordeaux

Château La Croix St. Georges is dedicated to sustainable viticulture, with practices designed to protect the environment and enhance the natural balance of the vineyard. This commitment to sustainability extends through every aspect of the winemaking process, from hand-harvesting the grapes to employing traditional vinification techniques complemented by modern technology. Vinification processes take place in open-top, wooden fermentation vats. The wine ages in entirely new, French oak for 16 to 20 months. Some of the barrels feature a unique cigar shape which promotes balanced integration of components, adding complexity and elegance to the wine without overshadowing the natural flavours of the grapes. Château La Croix St. Georges features ripe red and black fruit, hints of spice, chocolate and delicate florals in a sumptuous palate with velvety tannins and well-integrated acidity. This wine has the potential for graceful ageing.
