Understanding Chateau du Domaine de L'Eglise, Pomerol, Bordeaux
The vineyards of Château du Domaine de L'Eglise benefit from the distinctive terroir of Pomerol, characterised by its rich clay and gravel soils. This, coupled with the ideal microclimatic conditions, provides the perfect setting for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines to thrive. Sustainable viticulture practices are a cornerstone at the estate, ensuring the health and longevity of vines, some of which are over 40 years old. This contributes significantly to the concentration and complexity of the grapes. Grapes are meticulously harvested and sorted, ensuring only the highest quality fruit is used. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, a portion of which is new. This approach balances the wine's natural fruit characters with the sophistication of oak, resulting in a harmonious expression of Pomerol's esteemed terroir. This Grand Vin showcases ripe plum, black cherry, truffle notes, hints of violet and a subtle earthiness in a velvety palate with finessed tannins. This wine is celebrated for its velvety texture and depth, presenting layers of complexity that evolve elegantly over time.
