A brief history of Domaine de Chevalier, Rouge Cru Classe, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux

Domaine de Chevalier is an acclaimed estate located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, within the Graves region of Bordeaux. The property dates to the 18th century, though it was officially recognised under its current name in the late 19th century. This esteemed house has been under the stewardship of the Bernard family since 1983, who have dedicated themselves to elevating Domaine de Chevalier to the pinnacle of excellence. Renowned for both its red and white wines, Domaine de Chevalier is a rare breed in Bordeaux, achieving equal acclaim for both styles, a testament to the exceptional quality and versatility of its terroir. As a classified Grand Cru Classé de Graves, it epitomises the finest in Bordeaux winemaking, blending tradition with innovation. Domaine de Chevalier is notable for having kept its 'domaine' title, which is more at home in Burgundy than it is in Bordeaux. Chevalier comes from the Gascon word for knight, an homage to a trail on the property believed to have been used by knights in the 12th to 14th centuries.
