Understanding La Clarte de Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux
The grapes for Clarté de Haut-Brion are selected from the younger vines of both Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion, ensuring a blend that reflects the distinctive qualities of both estates. The composition is a classic Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc blend, creating a harmonious and complex wine. Vinification is approached with the same exacting standards as the first label. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for nine to 12 months in about 40% new barrels, a process that imparts additional complexity and creaminess to the palate. Use of oak is judiciously managed, allowing for subtle integration that complements rather than dominates the wine's profile. Clarté de Haut-Brion displays citrus, white peach, florals, a hint of minerality and toasted oak in a full palate balanced by fresh acidity that underscores the wine's ageing potential.
