Understanding Chateau Branon, Rouge, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux
The vineyards of Château Branon are sited on a unique terroir, featuring gravel and clay soils, ideal for the cultivation of Bordeaux varietals. The estate favours sustainable viticulture, reflecting a commitment to producing high-quality grapes in an environmentally conscious manner. This approach results in grapes that are expressive of the Pessac-Léognan appellation's distinctive qualities. The grapes are rigorously selected, ensuring only the best quality fruit is used. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled vats, with the wine subsequently undergoing softening malolactic fermentation and ageing in 100% new French oak for about 18 months. This process is thoughtfully executed to ensure that the oak ageing complements and enhances the wine’s profile, adding layers of complexity while maintaining the fruit’s integrity. Branon displays a balance between the lush, fruit-forward character of Merlot and the structure and depth provided by Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine ages gracefully, developing a nuanced array of flavours and aromas that appeal to connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.
