Understanding Les Griffons de Pichon Baron Rouge, Pauillac, Bordeaux
Sourced from the exceptional younger plots of the estate, Griffons de Pichon Baron is primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, which thrives in the region's deep gravel soils. This careful selection aims to produce a wine that is engaging and accessible from a young age, while still possessing the potential for development over time. Fermentation takes place in state-of-the-art temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, ensuring optimal extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. The wine is then aged for about 18 months in French oak barrels, a portion of which is new, to imbue it with a subtle woody complexity that complements its intrinsic fruit characteristics. Griffons de Pichon Baron features vibrant black fruit, spice hints and oak notes in a well-structured palate with smooth tannins. This second label promises excellent ageing potential.
