Understanding Chateau Pedesclaux 5eme Cru Classe, Pauillac, Bordeaux

Château Pedesclaux's ascent in the Bordeaux wine hierarchy is closely tied to its exceptional terroir, characterised by deep gravelly soils that are ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate's philosophy centres on sustainable viticulture, with a focus on preserving the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem. In the cellar, a tailored approach to vinification is employed, ensuring that each plot's grapes are individually vinified to express their unique qualities. The winemaking process involves careful selection, fermentation in a mix of stainless steel and concrete vats and ageing for 12 months in 60% new French oak barrels. This meticulous approach, combined with the estate's innovative gravity-flow winery, ensures that the wines of Château Pedesclaux capture the essence of Pauillac's terroir with precision and elegance. Château Pedesclaux displays aromatic dark fruit, spice, cocoa hints and minerality in a refined, layered palate with polished tannins. This first wine has considerable ageing potential.
