Château Haut-Batailley, a distinguished estate located in the Pauillac appellation, dates back to the mid-20th century when it was separated from the larger Batailley estate. This demarcation created an opportunity for Haut-Batailley to establish its own identity within the prestigious Pauillac classification, quickly gaining recognition for producing wines of exceptional quality and character. In the 1855 classification of Bordeaux, the property gained the rank of Fifth Growth. In typical Left Bank fashion, Château Haut-Batailley’s 22 hectares are planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot and Cabernet Franc grow in smaller plots and appear as supporting varietals in the property’s Grand Vin. Under the guidance of its current proprietors, Château Haut-Batailley has undergone significant modernisation efforts, both in the vineyard and the winery, without losing sight of the traditional values that have shaped its reputation.
