Understanding Chateau Fonbadet, Pauillac, Bordeaux
The vineyards of Château Fonbadet are planted on the gravelly soils typical of Pauillac, providing excellent drainage and heat retention, vital for the growth of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vines, benefiting from the region’s mild climate and ample sunshine, are tended with a focus on sustainability and respect for the natural environment. With an average vine age of over 30 years, the grapes achieve a depth of flavour and concentration that is reflected in the wine. Grapes are carefully handpicked and undergo rigorous selection. Fruit is destemmed to promote fruit and structure balance. Extended maceration and fermentation are carried out in concrete vats. The wine is then aged for 18 months in half-new French oak barrels, imparting subtle oak nuances and contributing to the wine's complexity and ageing potential. Château Fonbadet is a vivid expression of Pauillac terroir, offering a wine that is both powerful and refined, continuing to enchant and evolve for years to come. This first-label wine displays black fruit, tobacco, hints of vanilla and leather, all underpinned by firm tannins. The wine's impressive structure and complex profile are indicative of its ageing potential, evolving gracefully to reveal nuanced subtleties over time.
