Château Rauzan-Gassies, located in the renowned Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, boasts a rich heritage that traces back to the 17th century. Initially part of a vast estate that was later divided to create Château Rauzan-Ségla, its foundations were laid by Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, a prominent figure in Bordeaux’s wine trade. Recognised as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) estate in the esteemed 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Rauzan-Gassies has maintained its reputation for producing wines of exceptional quality and elegance. Rauzan-Gassies has been in the hands of the Quié family since 1945. The estate cultivates 28 hectares of vines with about two-thirds dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate's philosophy centres around expressing the nuanced characteristics of its terroir, achieved through meticulous vineyard management and selective harvesting.

Understanding Chateau Rauzan-Gassies 2eme Cru Classe, Margaux, Bordeaux

Château Rauzan-Gassies' commitment to quality, coupled with a reverence for its historical legacy and a forward-looking approach to viticulture, ensures the continued production of distinguished wines that resonate with collectors and connoisseurs alike. The winemaking process at Château Rauzan-Gassies is a thoughtful blend of tradition and innovation. Alcoholic and softening malolactic fermentation take place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. This stage imbues the wine with depth and structure while preserving fruit flavours, expressing the sophistication and elegance synonymous with the Margaux appellation. This Grand Vin displays aromatic black and red fruit, florals, currant, spice, savoury herbal hints and liquorice in a medium-bodied, supple palate with finessed tannins. This wine has considerable cellaring potential.
