Understanding Chateau Durfort-Vivens 2eme Cru Classe, Margaux, Bordeaux

The vineyards of Château Durfort-Vivens flourish on the typical gravelly soils of Margaux, ideal for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate's dedication to sustainable practices enhances the natural expression of the vineyard, contributing to the terroir-driven character of the wines. Grapes are carefully harvested and sorted, and fermentation takes place in a mixture of wooden vats and concrete tanks, sized according to specific vineyard parcels which are vinified individually for a precise wine profile. Ageing for 18 months in part-new French oak barrels, judiciously selected to complement the wine's profile, adds complexity and depth while honouring the fruit's purity. This meticulous approach culminates in a wine that not only captures the essence of Margaux’s esteemed terroir but also embodies the chateau’s philosophy of respecting and expressing the natural character of the vineyard. This Grand Vin displays black fruit, violet and a touch of minerality, complemented by subtle oak nuances. The wine is appreciated for its silky tannins and balanced complexity, embodying the finesse and grace characteristic of Margaux wines.
