A brief history of Chateau du Tertre 5eme Cru Classe, Margaux, Bordeaux

Château du Tertre, a historic jewel in the Margaux appellation in the Médoc region, traces its origins back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest estates in the region. In the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves, the château was classified as a Fifth Growth. Since then, its 52 hectares of vineyards have remained unchanged. Its Grand Vin and second wines are a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate experienced a renaissance in the 1990s under the stewardship of the Albada Jelgersma family, who revitalised its vineyards and winemaking facilities. In 2021, the property was sold to an unnamed French institutional investor while the renowned vigneron family, the Helfrichs now manage the winery. The estate is presently converting to biodynamic farming. The château's dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality has cemented its status as a quintessential Margaux producer, embodying the elegance and complexity for which the appellation is celebrated.
