Understanding Cuvee Madame, Chateau Coutet, Barsac, Bordeaux
The grapes for Coutet Cuvée Madame are harvested from the oldest vines of the Château Coutet estate, thriving in the distinctive limestone and clay soils of Barsac. This terroir is crucial in developing the intense flavours and aromas that define this wine. The grapes are allowed to reach optimal ripeness, often enhanced by the noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which concentrates their natural sugars and flavours. Grapes are handpicked and sorted, followed by gentle pressing and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for up to 24 months, a process that imparts subtle oak nuances while preserving the vibrant, fruit-driven character of the wine. Cuvée Madame displays candied fruits, apricot and honey complemented by citrus zest and delicate florals in a sumptuously sweet palate balanced by fresh acidity. This wine has remarkable ageing potential and is a much sought-after choice among dessert wine aficionados.
