Understanding Tolpuddle Vineyard, Chardonnay, Tasmania, Tasmania
The Tolpuddle Vineyard, established in 1988, is situated in a prime location that benefits from a beneficial north-facing aspect, a cooler climate and maritime influences. The vineyard's ancient soils feature sandy loam over sandstone, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the concentration and flavour intensity of the Chardonnay grapes. Hand-harvesting, coupled with a meticulous winemaking approach, ensures the preservation of the grape's delicate flavours. The winemaking process includes gentle pressing and fermentation followed by softening malolactic fermentation. The wine matures in partly-new French for nine months before a further eight months of bottle ageing, allowing complexity to develop. Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay displays fresh citrus, green apple, white florals, subtle toasted notes and vanilla hints in an intense palate balanced by crisp acidity and a distinctive minerality. This wine promises excellent ageing potential.
