Understanding Torbreck, The Laird, Barossa Valley, South Australia

The grapes for The Laird come from the acclaimed Gnadenfrei vineyard in the Barossa Valley, renowned for its old Shiraz vines planted in the 1950s. This site features rich, loamy soil and ideal microclimate which contribute to the depth, intensity and complexity of the Shiraz grapes. Vines are traditionally dry-farmed for deeper fruit intensity. Winemaking involves careful selection of the best fruit, followed by fermentation with natural yeasts and long maceration to extract maximum flavour and tannins. The wine sees extended maturation in the finest French oak, which contributes to its extraordinary structure, elegance and ageing potential. The Laird Shiraz exhibits layered dark fruit and notes of coffee, chocolate and exotic spice in a sumptuous and velvety palate with robust tannins that provide the wine’s bold structure. This Shiraz has exceptional cellaring capacity.
