Understanding Torbreck, The Factor, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Grapes for The Factor are carefully selected from old Shiraz vines in some of the most esteemed vineyards of Barossa Valley. These vineyards, characterised by their ancient soils and diverse microclimates, contribute to the intensity and complexity of the Shiraz grapes. The region’s warm days and cool nights are crucial in developing the grapes' rich flavours and robust tannins. Torbreck's winemaking philosophy for The Factor emphasises minimal intervention to allow the natural characteristics of this varietal to shine through. The wine is fermented using traditional methods and then aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak. This maturation process enhances the wine's structure and imparts subtle notes of spice and vanilla. The Factor Shiraz displays dark fruit, mocha nuances, liquorice and smoky hints in an opulent and concentrated palate with well-integrated tannins that contribute to the wine's powerful structure. This Shiraz has outstanding cellaring potential when it develops greater finesse and complexity.
